The Vermont Research Guide is a 186-page comprehensive aid for genealogists in search of the major records, repositories, and collections, both print and online – for genealogical research in Vermont. It was written by Scott Andrew Bartley, professional genealogist, archivist, and project leader for the “Early Vermont Settlers to 1784 Project” for the New England Historic Genealogical Society. It is a joint publication of the Genealogical Society of Vermont and the Vermont French-Canadian Genealogical Society.

It shows you where to find court records in archives, courthouses, books, and online databases. It has won numerous awards including the Best Genealogical Resource Award by the Connecticut Society of Genealogists.
The Vermont French-Canadian Genealogical Society has published 65 volumes of Roman Catholic parish records for the Diocese of Burlington. These records begin in the 1830s and some parish entries extend into the 1990s. The baptisms and marriages in each volume are a treasure trove of family information, with baptism records sometimes including information about later marriages and deaths. This collection includes over 226,000 baptism and 300,000 marriage records.
