Our Vermont Genealogy Library is located in the Pinewood Plaza at 57 River Road (Rt 117), Essex Junction, Vermont.

The library has a growing collection of reference books, manuscripts, periodicals and microfiche. We continue to purchase published “repertoires” of church records pertaining to marriages, baptisms and burials.

There are over a dozen computers with free access to 7 major genealogy databases including Ancestry and MyHeritage. Volunteers will help guide your research into many ethnic groups.

A wide array of genealogy classes are held at the library and via Zoom.

Search Catalog

The Vermont Genealogy Library has reclassified the entire library using the Library of Congress Classification System. Our new user-friendly catalog, called TinyCat, can be searched by keyword – from home or from the library. Check out the new catalog:

The Library has been physically re-arranged in the new call number order. Please ask a volunteer to orient you to the new arrangement.

Here are some changes you should know about, pertaining to US states:

— For each state, books are in this general order — Gazetteers, collective biography/genealogy, general history by time period, books covering Counties (alpha order by county) and Towns (alpha order by town regardless of county).
— With the exception of VT-FCGS repertoires (which are shelved as a set), other repertoires are shelved in the town they cover.
— City directories and cemetery books are also with the town they cover.
— If a book covers more than one town, it will be shelved with the first town mentioned in the title.

We strongly urge you to use the catalog to find the resources you need. We don’t want you to miss anything!

Book Loans

Members can borrow books from the Lending Library. In the past year, we have added many volumes to this collection. To find out what is available to borrow, click here, or go to Search Catalog and type “lending library” into the search box. You will find over 250 volumes available. To narrow your search, just type in additional key words.
