Ancestry – Home Access, Too!

Last December we announced that we were adding MyHeritate Library Edtion to our other six online databases at the library. The amazing thing about MyHeritage LIbrary Edition is that members can also access it remotely on their home computers, tablets and smartphones!

Then in late March, after several states began announcing quarantines, we learned that Ancestry.com and Proquest, who distributes its products to libraries and societies, decided to temporarily allow subscribing institutions to offer Ancestry Library Edition home access to patrons and members! Since we offer it at the library – you get it at home for free until April 30th.

Members can access Ancestry Library Edition from home by going to our website, https://www.vtgenlib.org, and clicking on the MEMBERS tab. When asked, enter the UserID and Password (contact us if you need them). Once there click on the icon for Ancestry Library Edition.

Now remember that, although we’re getting records from all over the world not just in the U.S., this is their “library edition.” so there is no connectivity to anyone’s individual account. No posting of your family tree, no contacting other members, etc.

Still…this means home access to billions of records!! Coupled with the tools available to you from MyHeritage’s home access – this is a gold mine!!

If you have any problems accessing either of these online database write to us at library@vtgenlib.org. If you want to know more about how their library edition differs from an individual account go HERE or read our earlier blog post about Ancestry Library Edition on April 20, 2017.
